3 killed, more than 10 injured in Indonesia's train accident

Three people were killed and more than 10 others injured as two trains were involved in a face-to-face collision in Indonesia's West Java province, a police officer said.

The casualties were a train driver, his assistant and an employee, police spokesman of the provincial Police Office Senior Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo said in a live interview with local media MetroTV.

He said the Turangga express train traveling from Surabaya, the capital of East Java province, to Bandung hit a commuter train heading to Padalarang from Cicalengka station.

"Our personnel have rescued many injured people, at least more than 10 wounded persons. It could be more than that," he told Xinhua by phone. All of the injured have been rushed into the General Hospital of Cicalengka, he added.

About 106 passengers on the commuter train and 54 on the Turangga have been rescued, said Hery Marantika. head of Bandung's Search and Rescue Agency.
