A total of 348 Myanmar citizens stranded in foreign countries due to COVID-19 arrived back home by Myanmar Airlines International (MAI)’s three relief flights that all landed at the Yangon International Airport yesterday.
Ninety citizens stranded in Cambodia came back home by yesterday’s first relief flight that landed at the Yangon airport at 5:5 pm.
One hundred and twenty-nine Myanmar citizens – 79 from the Republic of Korea, 2 from Belgium, 1 from from Canada, Germany, 3 from Japan, 2 from Norway, 9 from the United Kingdom, 1 from Viet Nam, 1 from South Sudan, and 30 from the United States – arrived at the Yangon airport at 8 pm by second relief flight that departed from Incheon International Airport in South Korea. Of the total returnees, 129 Myanmar citizens from United Arab Emirates came back home by MAI’s third relief flight yesterday that landed at the Yangon airport at 9:30 pm.
Upon their arrival, officials from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, the Ministry of Health and Sports and the Yangon Region government provided them with proper medical checks and arranged 21-day quarantine for them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working in line with the guidelines set by the National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 and cooperating with relevant ministries, Myanmar embassies abroad to repatriate Myanmar citizens stranded in other countries due to COVID-19. Until now a total of 6,476 Myanmar citizens have been brought back home.
