4 killed, 39 missing after motor boat capsizes in Yenangyoung Tsp

Four people died and 35 people from Phayelkyun village went missing when a boat capsized in the Ayeyawady River on 23 July in the Ayeyawady River in Yenangyoung Township, Magway Region.

The incident occurred when some 150 people from Phayelkyun Village with two motor boats left a silt-island after disputing with others over ownership of the island.

After the dispute with people of a nearby village for some hours, the Phayelkyun villagers left the island at 4.40 p.m, and soon after their boat capsized. Thirty nine people went missing, according to Township Police Force.

“Dead bodies of two men and women were found on 24 July. Rescue operations are being undertaken”, said, U Marn Ko Haw, Yenangyoung Township Administrator.
