Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various procedures, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in cooperation with the people in the country.
The combined team seized a total of 59.59 tons of illegal timber, including 24.51 tons of teak, 10.00 tons of hardwood and 25.06 tons of other types of timber in the country between October 21 and 27 this year, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw, State and Regional Forest Departments.
In addition, 19 culprits were arrested in connection with the cases along with 12 vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
