6 killed, 12 injured in van-truck collision in Pakistan's Punjab

09 July

A fatal road crash occurred on Wednesday in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, leaving six people killed and 12 others injured, police said.

The incident happened when a passenger van collided with a truck on a highway in Rahim Yar Khan city of the province, a city police official told Xinhua.

The official said that the passenger van was on its way from the Alipur Tehsil to Sadiqabad when the accident happened, adding that the van's driver lost control over his vehicle while trying to save a motorcyclist on the highway and collided with the truck.

Following the crash, rescue teams along with police personnel reached the spot and shifted all the injured to a nearby hospital where several of them are said to be in critical condition.

Road accidents frequently happen in Pakistan, mainly due to poorly maintained vehicles, dilapidated roads and negligence of road safety measures.
