8 dead, six missing after motorized boat capsized

Eight people died and another six people are still missing when a motorized boat capsized in Sadaung dam, west of Chinlya village in Mahlaing Township, Meikhtila district, Mandalay region this morning, according initial information from a local police station. 

When a total of 24 passengers- 12 male, 12 female, led by U Nan Lwin, 40, from Haung Nwe village, Myittha Township, were crossing Sadaung dam by a motorized boat steered by a man named Kyaw Win Hlaing, 18, the boat capsized in the dam. The sinking of the boat resulted in the death of eight people- one male and seven female. A total of six people- four male and two female have now been unaccounted for, despite the remaining six people were found alive.

The authorities pressed charges against Kyaw Win Hlaing according to penal code, according to Hnawkan area police station.—Bo Bo (Mahlaing)
