About 300 cars burned at airshow in India

24 February

Firefighters in India say a dry grass fire at an airshow has burned nearly 300 cars. They say no one was injured.

The blaze broke out at an air base in the southern city of Bengaluru on Saturday. It was buffeted by heavy winds and spread rapidly to a parking lot.

Footage shows flames and black smoke billowing from the vehicles of spectators.

The authorities say the fire has not damaged any of the roughly 100 civilian and military planes from around the world that had been brought in to participate in the show.

This is the second incident that has marred the biennial event, which is promoted by the defense ministry.
