Afghan forces kill 5 militants in northern Kunduz province

Five militants were killed as the security forces ambushed a group of Taliban militants in the northern Kunduz province on Monday, provincial government spokesman Esmatullah Muradi said.

 

A group of Taliban militants, according to the official, was driving from one place to another place in Nahr-e-Taqi area outside provincial capital Kunduz city at 4:00 a.m. local time Monday when the security forces ambushed and killed five insurgents including a local commander Mullah Dadullah on the spot.

 

The attack on militants came after the Taliban insurgents launched mortar attack on the compound of provincial governor office on Sunday afternoon that killed four bodyguards of the governor and injured six others.

 

Taliban militants, who have intensified activities and are trying to overrun Kunduz city, have yet to make comment.
