ASEAN convenes special tourism meeting on COVID-19

The ASEAN Tourism Crisis Communication Team (ATCCT) held a special videoconference on COVID-19 on 4 June.

Malaysia chaired the meeting which was attended by representatives from ASEAN tourism authorities, the office of the ASEAN Secretary-General, and ASEAN Tourism Marketing Coordinator.

The meeting discussed situation reports on the implementation process of decisions made at the ASEAN Tourism Ministries videoconference on COVID-19 held on 29 April. It also discussed verifying the Terms of Reference for the ATCCT, the current situation of COVID-19 and exchanging experiences of reducing restrictions, and having ASEAN member nations upload information related to the disease on the ASEAN website to prevent disinformation.

Deputy Director-General Daw Khin Than Win of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism and officials participated in this online meeting and submitted the latest results implementing the decisions made at the meeting on 29 April and a news sharing mechanism for tourists and tourism companies. They submitted upgrading process of the website platform for sharing COVID-19 information from the ASEAN Tourism Marketing Promotion Agency, advised the meeting chairperson to use the current platform to share information, discussed current COVID-19 situations of member nations, experiences in lessening restrictions, status on reopening tourism businesses, and the rotating duty of ATCCT chairperson.

According to the ATCCT’s Terms of Reference, Cambodia will be hosting the ASEAN Tourism Forum for 2020/2021 and assume the role of ATCCT chairperson with Indonesia as vice-chairperson.—MNA  (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
