Aso: Japan is watching US presidential election

Japanese Finance Minister Aso Taro says his country is keeping a close eye on the US presidential election.

Aso spoke to reporters on Wednesday morning as vote-counting was starting in the United States.

He said that the US has close ties with Japan, both in terms of defense and the economy.

He added that Japan cannot help but have a strong interest in the election regardless of who wins, and must monitor it closely.

Aso added that it may take time to get the result, and there is no predicting how that will affect financial markets.
