Avalanche claims 3 lives in north Afghanistan

Three persons have lost their lives and another sustained injury as an avalanche struck a village in north Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency has reported.

The avalanche took place in a far-flanged village of Shar-e-Bazarag district over the weekend, leaving three dead and one injured, the state-controlled media outlet reported without giving more details.

Parts of the war-ravaged Afghanistan including the capital city Kabul have received heavy snowfall and rain since Thursday, which led to road closure in some areas.

Authorities were able to clean the snow and reopened Salang Pass which connects Kabul to nine northern provinces onward to Central Asian states on Sunday.

Authorities also reopened Hajigak Pass which connects Kabul to the central Bamyan province on Sunday, officials said.
