Backhoe operator killed in landslide collapse in Phakant jade mine

A backhoe operator was reportedly killed in a landslide collapse in a jade mine in Phakant Township, Kachin State.

A backhoe operator identified as U Soe Naing, 37, was pronounced dead on the scene after a 400 ft. slag-heap collapsed while he was engaging in a jade mining belonging to the Unity Jade Mining Company in Swatngaiyan Village, Phakant Township at about early this morning.

His body was retrieved under the debris by staff from the jade mining company, firefighters and was sent to a public hospital for an autopsy.—Win Naing (Kachin Land)
