Bago region holds campaign to develop libraries, raise reading habit

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended a ceremony to launch the “de­veloping libraries and raising reading habits campaign” at the Bago City Hall in Bago Region yesterday.

 

Speaking at the event, the Union Minister, who is also the Chairman of Myanmar Libraries Development Cooperation Com­mittee, said the youths should know the value of literature and keep reading to know what is right and what is wrong. The campaigns will be held across the nation at the university level and basic education level.

 

He then urged the students to visit the library during school holidays and to try hard to be intelligent students and achieve five essential strengths.

 

He also said that on 9 May, well-wishers donated K2,205 mil­lion to 147 libraries in the cam­paign to develop libraries and improve reading habits in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory.

 

He presented K30 million for the repair work of six librar­ies and K45 million to establish three new libraries in the Bago Region to regional Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win.

 

Moreover, the Union minis­ter received a K165 million cash donation from the well-wishers to establish 11 new libraries.
