The opening ceremony for the Bodhi Tahtaung elephant camp was held in the morning of 14 July in Bodhi Tahtaung pagoda precinct in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region.
The elephant camp was opened with seven elephants, and created a new destination for visitors, as part of the Elephant Conservation Based Tourism (ECBT).
Dr Myint Naing, Chief Minister for Sagaing Region, U Lar Htaung Htan, Region minister for Chin Ethnic Affairs, U Saw John Shwe Ba, Managing Director of Myanma Timber Enterprise, officials from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Monywa) and local residents attended the ceremony.
The Chief Minister for Sagaing Region, Region Minister for Chin Ethnic Affairs and Managing Director of Myanma Timber Enterprise opened the camp by cutting the ribbon. Moreover, Managing Director of Myanma Timber Enterprise explained the objectives of the elephant camp and inspected there.
The entrance fee there set are fixed at K1,000 for local visitors and K10,000 for foreign visitors. Elephant ride will collect K 5,000 for local residents, except for monks and nuns, and K10,000 for foreigners. Visitors can enjoy natural scenic views of Bodhi Tahtaung, along with a mahout village that was developed for them to be able to observe the lifestyles of local people. —GNLM
