Boeing to cut 30,000 jobs by end of next year

Boeing announced on Wednesday that it will cut more jobs after a third quarter of heavy losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The US aircraft maker expects to shed 14,000 more jobs by the end of next year, in addition to the 16,000 it announced in April. That would bring the total number of job losses to 30,000 in less than two years.

Boeing cited the need to align to market realities, as it expects new demand for aircraft will remain low for the time being.

The pandemic has amplified the company's financial difficulties, after it had taken a hit with the grounding of the 737 MAX after two fatal crashes.

Boeing reported a loss of about 400 million dollars in the three months through September, with sales declining by 29 percent. This was the firm's fourth consecutive quarterly loss.

The US airline industry continues to face severe difficulties. American Airlines and United Airlines are cutting 32,000 jobs.
