Buddhological museums at Pyay Shwesandaw, Shwemawdaw upgraded to digital museums

According to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bago Branch), the Buddhological museums at the Pyay Shwesandaw Pagoda and the Shwemawdaw Pagoda have been upgraded to pagoda digital museums and are now accessible on the website.

During virtual museum visits, only items of significant historical value will be on display, as it’s not feasible to exhibit all items online. Furthermore, efforts are underway to enable offline viewing of ancient areas near the museum.

“Besides the Shwemawdaw and Shwesandaw Buddhological museums in Bago and Pyay, the Department of Archaeology and National Museum has been progressively converting 32 museums into digital formats since 2023. That enables both online and offline visits. Plans are in progress to allow viewers to explore the museums’ collections of rare artefacts in 3D,” stated an official from the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bago Branch).

Since December 2023, digital directories of ten historical pagodas, including the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Region and the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in Mon State, have been accessible to the public for both online and offline viewing. — ASH/MKKS
