Car bomb kills 8 people in northern Syria

11 Nov

Turkey's Defense Ministry says a car bomb has killed eight people and wounded at least 20 others in a town in northern Syria, which Turkish troops captured.

The explosion occurred on Sunday in a town about 10 kilometers south of the border with Turkey.

Footage taken at the site shows a car engulfed in flames and nearby buildings destroyed by the blast.

The town is in an area captured by Turkish troops during a recent military offensive.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The Turkish Defense Ministry blames a hostile Kurdish militant group.

In a separate incident on November 2, a similar car bomb attack killed 13 people in another border town captured by Turkish troops.

Turkey invaded northern Syria last month and has since conducted a military campaign there in an attempt to eliminate Kurdish militants from Syria's border with Turkey.

Turkey has suspended its military offensive, but says it will resume if Kurdish militants don't withdraw from the border area as demanded.
