TO gain the trust of investors in the international tourism sector, hotel and tourism businesses must be free from corruption, stated Daw Myat Su Thin, director of the Anti-Corruption Commission Office (Yangon).
She made these remarks during an anti-corruption awareness talk held on 22 June at Yatha Condominium in Pabedan Township, Yangon, which was intended to help hotel business owners better understand the nature of corruption.
The event was jointly organized by the Yangon Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism and the Anti-Corruption Commission Office (Yangon).
Director Daw Myat Su Thin explained that anti-corruption efforts are of vital importance, and U Thein Win, Chairman of the Myanmar Hoteliers Association (Yangon Zone), urged that collaborative efforts are required.
The ceremony was attended by U Nay Min Tun, minister of Rakhine Ethnic Affairs of the Yangon Region Government, officials, as well as business owners from approximately 100 hotels.
Currently, there are over 500 hotel businesses in the Yangon Zone, and anti-corruption awareness sessions will continue to be held for those who have not yet attended. — TWA/ZN
