TO gain the trust of inves­tors in the international tourism sector, hotel and tourism businesses must be free from corruption, stated Daw Myat Su Thin, director of the Anti-Cor­ruption Commission Of­fice (Yangon).

She made these re­marks during an anti-cor­ruption awareness talk held on 22 June at Yatha Condominium in Pabedan Township, Yangon, which was intended to help hotel business owners better understand the nature of corruption.

The event was jointly organized by the Yangon Region Directorate of Ho­tels and Tourism and the Anti-Corruption Commis­sion Office (Yangon).

Director Daw Myat Su Thin explained that an­ti-corruption efforts are of vital importance, and U Thein Win, Chairman of the Myanmar Hotel­iers Association (Yan­gon Zone), urged that collaborative efforts are required.

The ceremony was attended by U Nay Min Tun, minister of Rakhine Ethnic Affairs of the Yan­gon Region Government, officials, as well as busi­ness owners from approx­imately 100 hotels.

Currently, there are over 500 hotel businesses in the Yangon Zone, and anti-corruption aware­ness sessions will con­tinue to be held for those who have not yet attend­ed. — TWA/ZN
