The coordination meeting 7/2024 of the Central Body for Summoning People’’s Military Servants took place yesterday afternoon at the Ministry of De­fence’s meeting hall, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Un­ion Minister for Defence Admiral Tin Aung San.

 

Vice Chairman of the Cen­tral Body Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) Gen­eral Maung Maung Aye, mem­bers of the central body, and state and regional chief minis­ters participated in the meeting, joining via an online platform.

 

In his address, Admiral Tin Aung San noted that the People’s Military Service Law will be made public once the by-laws have been finalized and approved by relevant au­thorities. He explained that the current draft has been revised eight times based on feedback from various ministries, the Nay Pyi Taw Council, and state and regional authorities. He urged administrative bodies to use effective public relations and communication practices during the conscription process and to prevent financial fraud.

 

Admiral Tin Aung San also addressed the spread of misin­formation, highlighting 12 in­stances where opposition media circulated false reports about the conscription process. He en­couraged timely responses to counter such misinformation. He further commended the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman and state and regional chief ministers for reviewing previous conscription efforts and emphasized the im­portance of adhering to estab­lished laws and regulations.

 

General Maung Maung Aye discussed steps to overcome challenges and strengthen public awareness. The meet­ing also covered topics such as exemptions and deferments for conscription, coordination efforts, awareness sessions, disciplinary actions for absen­tees, and healthcare services for conscripted candidates. — MNA/TMT
