President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing

President of the Republic of the Union of Myan­mar U Min Aung Hlaing attended yester­day’s ceremony marking the 79th Martyrs’ Day (2026) to pay solemn tribute to the nation’s martyred leaders in recognition of their historic sacrifices.

Following the cere­mony, President U Min Aung Hlaing responded to questions from members of the media regarding his attendance to pay tribute on Martyrs’ Day, as well as issues relating to the coun­try’s development and na­tional unity at the present time. His responses are as follows:

“As a democratically elected government and as the country’s leadership, we have a responsibility to accord the nation’s mar­tyred leaders the highest recognition and respect. That is why we have come to attend the Martyrs’ Day ceremony — the highest national observance held in honour of the martyred leaders. Other leaders have joined me in attending the ceremony as well.”

“I came to join every­one in paying tribute to the nation’s martyred leaders in a spirit of unity and sol­idarity.”

“We must always study and appreciate the vision of the nation’s leaders, includ­ing the martyred leaders led by General Aung San, and understand how they sought to build the country and forge a united nation.”

“Following independ­ence, it was essential for everyone to remain unit­ed in order to build a co­hesive nation. However, unity alone is not enough. We must also work for the good of the country. Disci­pline is equally important. It is true that there are still areas where greater discipline is needed. If we work together in unity, in an orderly and disciplined manner, and to the best of our abilities, there is no rea­son why the country can­not achieve development and progress. There is no reason why we cannot be­come a nation that stands shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the world. The people of Myanmar possess great strength and poten­tial. What is needed is for each of us to make full use of our own capabilities and efforts.”

“National ethnic uni­ty is of paramount impor­tance. Before the country lost its independence, all ethnic nationalities lived together in unity. After in­dependence was lost, vari­ous divisive influences un­dermined that unity. Even after independence was regained, ethnic unity con­tinued to be weakened by different forms of division. It is therefore essential that we restore unity and build a strong, united Union. If we fail to do so, conflicts will inevitably persist. That is why unity is so important.”

“To achieve unity, we must understand the im­portance of discipline and respect for the rule of law. We must also equip our­selves with knowledge and skills. We will pursue these efforts in an integrated manner because they are of vital importance.”

“For the country to achieve progress and devel­opment, I would like to call on all the people to stand united.” — News Crew
