Crew of missing SDF fighter jet rescued

Japan's Defense Ministry officials say two crew members of an F-2 fighter that went missing during a training flight have been rescued.

The two were pulled from the sea and Self Defense Force officials say both are conscious.

Ministry officials say they lost contact with the aircraft at 9:18 AM on Wednesday while it was flying off the coast of Yamaguchi Prefecture in western Japan.

The plane operates out of a SDF base in Fukuoka prefecture.

The ministry says the search for the aircraft is continuing.

There were strong winds and high waves in the area, according to Japan's meteorological agency.
