Deluge of water causes schools to temporarily suspend in Kawkareik

Torrential downpours hit Kawkareik, Kayin State and caused burgeoning in wards and villages. Consequently, rescue camps are being opened and some schools were temporarily halted.

A total of five rescue camps were opened starting from 6 August in Kawkareik. The District Administrator and departmental personnel spoke words of encouragement to flood victims who were in the five camps. In addition, the officials provided instant noodles and fulfilled the necessity to the victims.

Due to the flooding, water entered into the low-lying areas and as a consequence, a total of 498 people from 110 households out of 34610 people from 6834 households were evacuated to safety places and were being given health care services.

As Kawkareik is experiencing inundation of flood, a total of 30 schools were temporarily suspended starting from 3 August in order to prevent students’ safety.
