Detonators, drugs seized in three Mandalay townships

Security forces at the 16-mile joint-investigation gate in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, arrested 4 people in a vehicle from a transportation service named ‘Htet Oo’ at 5:30 am on 13 June after discovering 14 bags containing 2,100 electric detonator wires each and 6,000 detonator rods inside the vehicle.

The arrested included the driver named Htet Naing Oo, the service owner named Kyaw Kyaw Htay, his wife Aye Aye Nwe, and a helper named Zin Min Oo.

Similarly, security forces arrested two men identified as Tun Min Latt and Nyein Chan Aung at 8:30 am on the same day after confiscating 9,700 13ft detonator rods, 15,000 electric detonator rods, 45,030g of gunpowder, and 114 pink psychotropic tablets imprinted with 88/1.

Security forces were able to obtain information from the suspects to a person named Soe Min Kyi for his connection to the confiscated items and arrested him at the Myitnge-Htonebo junction in Pyigyidagun Township.

Further investigation led to the arrest of three men named Bo Bo Naing, Nay Win Tun and Tun Tun Min at 11:30 am on the same day along the 22-milepost on the PyinOoLwin-Mandalay highway. The vehicle they were driving also belonged to ‘Htet Oo’ transport service and the three suspects had buried 20 sacks holding 3,140 rods containing 285g of gunpowder and 180 ignition detonator rods at the 21 miles and 2 furlong part of the road. Security forces then learned the items were to be sent to a man named U Ba Aung in Sein Pan Ward, Mahaaungmye Township, but upon arriving at his house they only found his son, named Ye Yint Aung, who was arrested with 25g of marijuana.

The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services reported that the suspects and confiscated items have been handed over to Mahaaungmye Police Station.—MNA  (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
