Puta-O 15 January
With the assistance of Internatioal Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), Puta-O District Sub-election Commission organized the opening ceremony of efficiency-promoting course on election at the community centre in the town of Puta-O in Myanmar’s nothernmost state of Kachin this morning.

At the event, U Dain Yaung Zaw Eain from Kachin State Election Commission, person in charge of Puta-O district for electoral purposes, made an opening speech. Then, U Tam Tan Phiram, chairman of Puta-O District Sub-election Commission reported on the aim of the course. After that, the district electoral officer Daw Ei Ei Phyo elaborated on election processes.
The two-day course covers ten curriculums including responsibilities and rights of sub-election commissions at different levels, rules and regulations, standard operating practices, votng in advance and simulation of polling booths.
The course aims to promote the roles of sub-election commissions and to meet the five criteria set out by the Union Election Commission- Independent, Fairness, Transparency, Credibility, the election results must reflect the wish of voters.
A total of 35 trainees from Puta-O, Machanbaw, Nogmung, Kawnglanghpu, Sumprabum townships in Puta-O district signed up for the course.—Phun Kan (Puta-O)
