ACCORDING to the Ministry of Commerce, the necessary procedures are being carried out in coordination with the project developer in accordance with the 2014 Myanmar Special Economic Zone Law, as efforts continue to resume the Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project.
Deputy Minister for Commerce U Win Myint Khaing made the remarks in response to a question raised by Amyotha Hluttaw Representative U Maung Sein on the 12th day of the second regular session of the Third Amyotha Hluttaw.

He added that, following the termination of the project agreement with the previous investor, ITD Company, in 2020, the government is working to restart the project.
He further said that a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) on investment cooperation in the Dawei SEZ and its surrounding areas was signed during the fifth meeting of the Myanmar-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, held in February 2025.
The deputy minister also told the Hluttaw that the Ministry of Commerce is coordinating with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to formally define and approve the port limits of the Dawei SEZ Deep Sea Port, adding that the process has reached its final stage. — TWA/TH
