Electricity officials discuss uninterrupted power distribution in 2020 summer

A coordination meeting to plan uninterrupted distribution of electricity for the summer was held at Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) yesterday.

Firstly, Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing said it is important for all departments to coordinate for sustainable electricity generation in the summer. He said electricity is one of the most fundamental requirements to develop a nation and the ministry has plans to achieve 55 per cent nationwide electrification in 2020-2021, 75 per cent in 2025-2026, and a hundred per cent by 2030.

The Union Minister said they have plans to increase electric generation to meet the rising demand and consumption. He said a total of 4,200MW will be needed in 2020 and the plans for generating them are complete with the distribution part necessary as well. However, there may be unexpected shortcomings in releasing natural gases and there is a need to use hydropower for mix generation, said the Union Minister. He said the electric sub-stations are important during the summer when consumption is high and to prevent outages.

He said all proper maintenance and repairs should be made ahead of time.

The Union Minister the township electric engineers who are in close contact with people should clearly explain to the public that they are working their best given the available time and resources to provide uninterrupted electricity.

 

Next, officials from various departments and corporations explained their relevant preparations for summer electricity generation in 2020 and Yangon Region Minister for Electricity, Industry and Infrastructure Daw Nilar Kyaw and Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win replied to the discussions.
