Exit polls show Israeli election too close to call

18 September

Exit polls from Israel's general election show a close race between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rightwing party and the largest opposition centrist party.

Vote counting is underway following the parliamentary election on Tuesday.

Exit polls by local media show Netanyahu's Likud party is neck-and-neck with the Blue and White party, led by former general Benny Gantz.

Neither party appears likely to win a majority.

The election is the second this year. Netanyahu failed to အt together a coalition government after the previous election in April, and dissolved parliament for another vote.

The election results will determine whether the prime minister, known for his hawkish stance against Iran and Palestine, can extend his decade-long grip on power.
