At least 79 people have been injured in blasts at a Russian explosives plant in the town of Dzerzhinsk about 400 kilometers east of Moscow.

Local authorities said the explosions on Saturday damaged five buildings in the compound. They said shockwaves from the blasts shattered windows of houses in the area. They said factory workers as well as local residents were among the injured.

Russia's Interfax news agency said the factory was using highly explosive gas to manufacture bombs. The emergencies ministry is investigating what caused the explosions.—NHK
