Fire leaves 2 dead in Philippine capital

A 69-year-old mother and her 42-year-old son died in a nearly three-hour fire that hit a residential area in the Philippine capital early on Thursday, the Philippines' Bureau of Fire Protection official said.

 

Fire Superintendent Eduardo Loon said the fire broke out around 0:30 a.m. local time and quickly spread. Firefighters declared the fire out around 3:00 a.m.

 

The fire gutted at least 20 houses, affecting around 40 families. The bodies of the two victims were found in the bathroom and the living room, he said.

 

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
