Fishing boat catches fire in Myeik Twsp.

No casualties were reported after a fishing boat docked at a jetty caught fire in Kyauk Phyar Village, Myeik Township in Taninthayi Region.

The fishing boat measuring 70 ft. in length, 17 ft. in with and 5 ft. in draught caught fire at about 9 p.m. on 29 May and the fire is believed to have started from an overheated battery. Firefighters from four local fire service stations rushed to the scene along with seven fire engines and water tankers, an ambulance and an administrative vehicle. They took about 45 minutes to completely distinguish the flame in cooperation with policemen, Red Cross members and local people.

The fishing boat was badly damaged in the fire and the estimated loss of property is about Ks. 2 million. An official from the fishing boat is being taken action over fire negligence by a local fire service station.—Khaing Htoo (IPRD)
