Five European nations criticize N.K. missile tests

6 March

Five European countries of the United Nations Security Council have condemned North Korea's recent missile tests.

Britain, France and three other European countries released a joint statement after a closed-door meeting of the 15-member council on Thursday. The five countries had requested the meeting. The statement urges North Korea to engage in denuclearization talks with the United States.

Before the meeting, Germany's UN Ambassador, Christoph Heusgen, said that North Korea must not be allowed to continue to violate international law.

The US, China and Russia did not take part in the joint statement. Since last year, the administration of US President Donald Trump has been indicating that it has no problem with North Korea's short-range ballistic missile tests. China and Russia are calling for easing sanctions against Pyongyang.
