Five people missing after ferryboat capsizes in Myaungmya Township

Five people went missing after a ferryboat bound for a wedding reception capsized in Myaungmya Township, Ayeyawady Region yesterday.

           

A ferryboat measuring 21 ft. in length and carrying 28 people was operated by a man identified as Mahn Thar Aye from Yay Ngan Village in Myaungmya Township and sank in Myohaung Creek while going to Kwatngwe Chaung Village to celebrate a wedding reception. Five people went missing and others managed to escape from drowning in the incident.

           

Assistant Township Administrator U Myo Khaing, Head of the township police force Win Htay, the village administrators and villagers rushed to the scene of accident and are carrying out a search and rescue operation for the missing people.—Aung Min (Myaungmya)
