Flood affects 6,600 people in Hpa-an

With the water level in the Thanlwin River exceeding its danger mark in Hpa-an, over 6,600 residents in low-lying areas have been evacuated. The local authorities has opened about 12 shelters for the flood victims. The water level reached 83 cm above the river’s danger mark 750 cm. Kayin State Government has provided food and shelters to the flood victims. The Sittoung River is receding at Madauk, reaching 1089 cm yesterday. The water level in the river exceeded its danger mark 1,070 cm and reached 1,282 cm recently. The swollen river forced over 16,900 people from 3,579 households in low-lying areas to shift to temporary shelters opened at monasteries and pagodas.
