The second Amyotha Hluttaw’s 14th regular session held its fourth-day meeting at the Amyotha Hluttaw meeting hall yesterday morning.
Hluttaw approves reformation of Amyotha Hluttaw Education Promotion Committee
In the first agenda of the meeting, Amyotha Hluttaw Deputy Speaker informed the replacement of Amyotha Hluttaw Education Promotion Committee member Col Htein Lin with Brig-Gen Aung Zaw Oo and obtained the Hluttaw approval of the reformation of the committee.
Electricity matters
MP U Aye Min Han of Mon State constituency 1 raised a question on whether there were plans to connect Kaw Tun, Kaw Pauk and Kaw Sein villages in Mawlamyine Township to the national electric grid.
Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy U Khin Maung Win replied that the funding for the process will be allocated in the budget proposal of either the Mon State Government fund or Union fund for 2023-2024 FY.
MP U Tun Tun Oo of Mandalay Region Constituency 2 rasied a question on what arrangements have been made to prevent power cuts during the hot summer season in 2020.
U Khin Maung Win replied that they are implementing seven projects approved by the Union Government, in their meeting No, (12/2019), to provide a combined 1,165MW across the whole nation.
The Deputy Minister said they are also implementing 500KV transmission lione and sub-power station projects, a System Improvement Plan, and System Development Plan to ensure sufficient energy is generated to meet the growing energy demand in the nation.
U Khin Maung Win also noted that the frequency of system breakdowns has decreased gradually from 17 times in 2016 to thrice in 2017, twice in 2018 and only once so far in 2019. He said they will pay special attention to further reduce any power cuts in 2020.
Education matters
MP Naw Hla Hla Soe of Yangon Region Constituency 10 raised a question on whetherlegal land grants for basic education schools in Insein and Mingaladon townships will be issued quickly.
Deputy Minister for Education U Win Maw Tun replied that the holders of the land, who may be other government ministries or the Tatmadaw, must first relinquish the land to the State in order for the Ministry of Education to continue any processes for applying a grant.
Questions raised by U Kyaw Than of Rakhine State Constituency 10 on upgrading a school and construct a new school building, and U Mahn Law Moung of Chin State constituency 8 on plan to appoint more ethnic national language teachers were also answered by Deputy Minister for Education U Win Maw Tun.
Bill Committee report on Industrial Zone Bill
Following the question and answer session, bill committee report on Industrial Zone Bill approved and sent with an amendment by Pyithu Hluttaw was read and explained by committee member Brig-Gen Tint Lwin.
Afterwards, Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker announced for Hluttaw representatives who want to submit amendment motion on the bill to register their names.
