Full Moon Day of Kasone celebrated in Mandalay under MoHS guidelines

Kasone Full Moon Day festival was celebrated with pouring water at Bodhi Banyan trees in the residential wards of Mandalay yesterday under the guidelines of Ministry of Health and Sports.

While famous pagodas and temples are temporarily closed for ensuring social distancing and prevention of community gatherings amid the outbreak of COVID-19, local people poured water at the sacred Bayan trees in the religious compounds. They participated in the ceremony with certain distances and not more than five persons in wearing face masks.

A participant at the ceremony said, “Although we cannot celebrate the Kasone festival very joyously this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we poured water at the Bodhi Bayan trees in making wishes for the end of this disease across the world.”

In previous years, Bodhigon Pagoda in Mahaaungmyay Township was crowded with people who came to celebrate the annual water pouring festival at the Bodhi Banyan tree planted by the late King Mindon. However, the event did not take place at this significant place this year due to measures against the COVID-19.—Min Htet Aung (Man Sub-printing House)
