Germany celebrates birth of twin giant pandas

A zoo in Germany is celebrating the birth of twin panda cubs. It's the first time one of the rare animals has given birth in the country.

 

Zoo Berlin says six-year-old female panda Meng Meng gave birth on Saturday.

 

Officials say the cubs weighed 186 and 136 grams at birth and are in good health. Their gender hasn't yet been identified.They say the mother is taking good care of the twins.

 

Meng Meng and her mate Jiao Qing arrived in Germany under a 2017 loan agreement with China.

 

Under the deal, any cubs will be returned to the country once they have been weaned.
