WITH the aim of identifying, grooming, and training the next generation of youth footballers, a grassroots football festival and an U-14 tournament will be held in Sittway this month, accord-ing to the Myanmar Football Federation.
The festival and tourney will be supervised by the My-anmar Football Federation and the Myanmar National League, and will be mainly sponsored by Myanma Posts and Telecommu-nications (MPT), said an official.
The Grassroots Football Festival will be held on 20 Oc-tober, and the opening ceremo-ny for the U-14 football tourney will also be held on the same day.
The U-14 Football Tourna-ment 2019 will run from 21 to 29 October, according to the Myan-mar National League.
During the grassroots foot-ball festival, children will learn new and innovative football skills, and then showcase their talent and participate in activ-ities with friends and football trainers.
Grassroots football festivals are being organized to show the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth in Myanmar to overcome health challenges, live productive lives, and be agents for change in their communities.
Grassroots festivals have also been held in Yangon, Mandalay, Mawlamyaing, and Taunggyi with hopes of improv-ing youths’ skills and health.
Similar grassroots football festivals were held last year across Myanmar, including in Mandalay Region, Shan State, Mon State, Yangon Region, and Bago Region. Local children studying at the Basic Education level can benefit from the festi-vals and improve their health and sports knowledge, and get opportunities to hone their foot-ball skills.
