Head-on collision claims 19 dead, 35 injured in Myawady

At least 19 people were killed and 35 others injured in a head-on collision between two cars in Myawady Township, Kayin State, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
    

A passenger bus carrying 46 people collided with a Probox car coming from an opposite direction with seven people aboard and plunged into a 300 ft. deep ravine at a place between mileposts 158 and 159 on the Myawady-Kawkareik Road near Thingan Nyinaung Village in Myawady Township at about 11:05 a.m. on 3 January. All people from Probox car and 12 people from passenger bus died on the spot and 35 others were hurt in the incident.
  

Among the injured people, 13 people including the driver of passenger bus sustained severe injuries in the incident. All the injured people were sent to a public hospital in Myawady. The passenger bus driver is being questioned over reckless driving by the local police.—MOHA
