Helicopter crash kills 7 in Nepal

Nepal's tourism minister and six other people have died in the crash of a helicopter.


The country's aviation authorities say the accident occurred on Wednesday in the eastern district of Taplejung.

Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari and five other passengers had gone to inspect the site where an airport was to be built, and were on their way back to Kathmandu.

 


Authorities say it was snowing in the mountainous region at the time and visibility was poor. They are investigating the cause of the crash.

Helicopters are often used to carry passengers in the Himalayas, but erratic air streams and changeable weather have been blamed for numerous accidents.
