The matriculation examination for the academic year 2023-24 kicked off on 11 March 2024, marking a pivotal moment in the lives of student youths. This examination, spanning from 11 to 19 March, serves as a crucial turning point for those aspiring to shape brighter futures. Successful candidates in this Grade-12 examination also called the matriculation examination, will gain significant opportunities to enrol in relevant universities and pursue higher education, charting a course towards their desired careers.
This examination holds a distinctive significance as the very first Grade-12 assessment under the new education system. Beyond its importance for students, it is equally crucial for teachers who have undergone training and adapted to a new curriculum and examination format. Throughout the academic year, both teachers and students have demonstrated heightened interest and commitment to navigating this transitional period in education.
Notably, this year’s participation in the new matriculation examination is lower than the previous year’s old system examination. The decrease in the number of students could be attributed, in part, to concerns about the threats posed by individuals undermining peace and stability across the nation. In Yangon Region alone, 73 exam centres have been established to accommodate 8,609 male students, 10,342 female students, and 2,509 external students across various subjects.
Authorities have taken comprehensive measures to ensure the convenience and safety of students at all exam centres nationwide. This includes addressing security concerns, managing traffic congestion, and implementing health protocols. Special arrangements have been made for students undergoing medical treatments, with dedicated hospital exam centres provided.
Remarkably, efforts are underway to facilitate the participation of students who have relocated from unsafe areas for various reasons, enabling them to take the examination in their respective regions without losing opportunities. Adherence to prescribed rules and regulations is imperative, contributing to the successful administration of the Grade-12 examination in the new education system.
Given its significance as a turning point in the lives of student youths, the responsibility for the successful and safe conduct of the matriculation examination extends beyond authorities to encompass students, teachers, and parents.
