Highway buses to run if passengers need to travel with health certificates

By Nyein Nyein

THERE is no announcement for suspension of the highway buses. So, the highway buses will run if the passengers need to travel, bringing along with them the health certificates, said U Hla Aung, joint secretary of the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA).

“To be able to run the passenger buses, the passengers need to bring along with them the health certificates in case of emergency. For those passengers, they need to inform our

YRTA in Aung Mingalar Highway Terminal,” he added. YRTA is not suspending the highway buses’ operation until today in Aung Mingalar Highway Terminal, Dagon Ayeyar Highway Terminal and Dala Highway Terminal.

“The implementation of COVID-19 prevention and control in states and regions is different. We want to operate our passenger buses. But, some states and regions do not allow our passenger buses to enter when the passengers are on board. Some states and regions ask the passengers for quarantine. Even if the passengers are holding the health certificates, they have to answer several questions. So, the passengers are not willing to travel with our highway buses. Our bus lines do not want to stop the operation because if we stop, we will suffer from great losses, and our workers will be in great trouble. But how can we run our buses if there are no passengers,” he explained. At present, we are transporting the passengers with over 20 buses as of today if they abide by the covid rules and regulations issued by the Health Department, according to YRT.

Although the highway buses have suspended the transport of the passengers starting from last August, some highway buses are still transporting the cargoes, he continued.

The highway buses are transporting the passengers and cargoes leaving the highway terminal after undergoing scrutiny by the related inspection team at the highway terminal.

There are more than 400 bus lines at Aung Mingalar highway terminal, Dagon Ayeyar highway terminal and Dala highway terminal that are running to 14 states and regions.
