HK police open fire on protesters

Police in Hong Kong say an officer opened fire on protesters on Monday morning. Officials say a 21-year-old man is in critical condition.

A video shows an officer grappling with a protester before shooting him at point-blank range.

Right after, the officer fired two more bullets at another protester. The incident was just one of a series of chaotic clashes across the city as protesters tried to disrupt the Monday morning commute.

Police have been using tear gas and pepper spray to try and disperse crowds.

Protests began more than five months ago over concerns about China's increasing influence on the semi-autonomous region.

Since then more than 3,000 people have been arrested. And last week a 22-year-old student died after falling from a parking garage during a police operation, marking the first protest-related fatality.
