Holidaymakers throng waterfall relaxation area in Machanbaw Township

Putao, 30 December

Around 150 local and foreign visitors reportedly flock to a waterfall recreation area about two miles northeast of Namkham Village, Machanbaw Township in Kachin State on the weekends and during the public holidays to relieve their physical and mental stress.

A committee has been set up by Rawang youths and residents from Namkham Village in order to carry out conservation works for the local travel destination. The waterfall dubbed as “She Wang” in Rawang language went viral among the netizens on social media and became popular in Kachin State after a group of local students visited the relaxation area in 2016.

The committee members have been undertaking preservation works of the third phase of the waterfall for the convenience of vacationists since September this year. Visitors can travel to the waterfall by motorcar and motorbike. There are many stalls at the foot of the mountain where holidaymakers are collected Ks. 500 of entrance fee, Ks. 1,000 and Ks. 500 for car and motorbike fees. The collected money is being spent on preservation of the waterfall and some restaurants are arranged for the convenience of visitors.

Putao District is famed for its popular travel spots such as Mt. Phonkanrazi, Mt. Khakaborazi, Kaung Hmu Lone Pagoda, natural caves, Mulah Shedee suspension bridge and now the waterfall was added to the list. She Wang Waterfall is a place where travellers can visit there within a short period of time.—Phon Kan (Putao)
