RADIOGRAPHY initiated an unprecedented change in the global health sector with the discovery of X-rays in 1895. From then onward, it has been providing invaluable services, enabling physicians and medical professionals to assess patients’ health conditions more accurately and reduce errors in treatment.

Medical doctors developed treatments through practical tests on patients to diagnose diseases and identify effective therapies. Prior to advancements in radiography, physicians encountered significant challenges due to limited treatment options. As a result, they largely depended on their own experiences to deliver healthcare services, navigating uncertainties in diagnosis and treatment without the detailed insights modern imaging provides.

Since the invention of X-rays and the radiographic process, radiography has greatly aided physicians and scientists in their medical duties, including patient treatment, research for medical advancements, and assessment of conditions, particularly in examining internal organs, diagnosing bone fractures, and evaluating critical situations.

World Radiography Day commemorates the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays in 1895. This day aims to raise public awareness of radiographic imaging and therapy, which are essential for diagnosing and treating patients. Most importantly, applying the radiography emphasizes the need to minimize radiation exposure, thereby enhancing the quality of patient care.

The International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT) has selected the theme “The Role of the Radiographer in a Pandemic” for this year. It is crucial to acknowledge the essential contributions of radiographers in healthcare during such crises. These professionals have consistently risen to the challenge, often risking their own safety to assist physicians in various medical fields. Although they often work behind the scenes, their efforts do not go unnoticed, as both physicians and patients remain deeply grateful for their unwavering support and dedication.

World Radiography Day, celebrated on 8 November every year, raises awareness about the vital role of radiographers in healthcare. This annual event recognizes their expertise in interpreting radiographs, which is essential for physicians and scientists. Each year, radiographers’ skills and contributions play a significant role in advancing medical technology, and enhancing patient care and outcomes in the healthcare system.

This honour for radiographers acknowledges their dedication to advancing medical education and knowledge for future radiographers and healthcare professionals. Their contributions enhance healthcare services in their respective countries. The milestone achieved in radiography recovery will have lasting significance for humanity, ensuring continued improvements in medical practices and patient care.
