India to increase efforts against spiking dengue cases

September 28

Indian Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday held a meeting to direct states to implement prevention and management measures against spiking dengue cases.

During the meeting, Mandaviya was briefed on the nationwide dengue situation.

Officials said the government has trained health workers and provided all necessary support to the states for screening, fogging and Information, Education and Communication activities.

According to the National Centre for Vector Borne Disease Control, India has recorded 94,198 dengue cases and 91 related deaths so far this year.

Last year, 233,251 dengue cases and 303 related deaths were recorded in India, the official data showed.

The mosquito-borne viral disease causes fever, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and, in severe cases, internal bleeding or a fatal drop in blood pressure.
