Iran dismisses Trump’s remarks on missile talks

US President Donald Trump was quickly rebuffed by Iran after expressing hopes for talks with it over its ballistic missile program.

Trump was speaking at a White House cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said at the meeting that Iran had signaled for the first time that it was prepared to negotiate on its program.

US media had earlier reported that Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif suggested that the missile program was negotiable.

Trump said they would see what happens, but a lot of progress has been made. He said the US wanted to help Iran and that it wasn't looking for a regime change.

Iran's mission to the United Nations quickly denied the media report. A spokesperson tweeted that Iran's missiles are absolutely and under no condition negotiable with any country.
