MYANMAR fighter Joshua Van, the reigning UFC flyweight champion, will make his first world title defence at UFC 327, scheduled for 11 April in Miami, United States. He is set to face Japanese contender Tatsuro Taira.
Joshua Van claimed the flyweight championship after knocking out Brazilian fighter Alexandre Pantoja on 6 December. The upcoming bout marks his first title defence, occurring just over four months after capturing the belt. Since joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2023, Van has rapidly risen through the ranks to become a world champion in less than two years.
In his professional MMA career, Van has competed in 18 fights, securing 16 wins and suffering two losses. Under the UFC banner, he has fought 10 times, recording nine victories and one defeat. Notably, he enters UFC 327 on a six-fight winning streak, a run that culminated in his championship triumph.
His opponent, Tatsuro Taira of Japan, brings an impressive professional record of 18 wins and one loss from 19 bouts. Taira previously achieved a 16-fight winning streak and is widely regarded as one of the division’s top rising contenders.
