More than 2,700 acres of corn have been successfully cultivated during the current rainy season in Kyunhla Township, Sagaing Region, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.
The township has targeted a total of 18,938 acres of corn cultivation for the rainy season. As of now, 2,797 acres have already been planted since cultivation began in May, said Daw Myint Myint Yee, Staff Officer of the Township Department of Agriculture. “Corn is being cultivated together with pigeon pea as an intercropping system,” she added.
The Township Department of Agriculture is providing technical assistance and field-based training to local farmers. These activities include demonstrations of proper cultivation techniques and educational programs on pest prevention and management to help improve corn production.— Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
