At least 3 dead, dozens trapped as building collapses in India

January 26

At least three people were killed and dozens were feared trapped after a four-storey building collapsed in India, officials said late on Tuesday (Jan 24).

The residential building located in the state of Uttar Pradesh came crashing down on Tuesday. Police say rescue workers have pulled more than 10 people out of the rubble so far, including two children.

The site is located in a crowded, high-end area of the state's capital, Lucknow.

Authorities have not commented on possible causes for the collapse. But such incidents are not rare in India, due to old and often illegal construction.
