At least 32 dead in heavy rain in southern China

Heavy rain has caused flooding and landslides in southern China, killing at least 32 people.

 


The Chinese government's disaster management team says the rain has continued for about a week in areas including the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Jiangxi Province.

More than 600 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in some places.

 


Thirteen people remain missing and more than 4,500 houses have been damaged.

 


About 245,000 people have been evacuated. Emergency workers are trying to rescue stranded people.

 


Weather officials say the rain is likely to continue intermittently, and more rivers could overflow. They are advising people to remain on the alert.
